Beatrice Alder (they or she) is a writer, visual artist, and scholar of history. They hold an M.F.A. in Fiction Writing from the University of Montana and a B.A. in History from Stanford University. The recipient of two Fulbright awards--a 2016-2017 ETA grant to Mongolia, and a 2021-2022 Creative Writing grant to Lithuania--Beatrice has published work in StoryQuarterly, The Jewish Quarterly, The Radical Jewish Calendar, Shoreline of Infinity Science Fiction Magazine, and others. Their not-yet-published novel, Yid, was a finalist for the 2023 Pen America/Bellwether Prize for Socially Engaged Fiction.
Since 2023, Beatrice has been exhibiting ceramics, prints, textile art, zines, and metalwork to tell stories of our queer ancestors and the worlds of their folk belief. With art inspired by ancient forms, Beatrice seeks to access a reality where angels and demons hover close, trees and animals can talk, and amulets give voice and power to the marginalized.
